Since her early teens, Emmerentia de Roche had always been self-conscious about her teeth. Her family never had the financial means to improve them so she resigned herself to almost never opening her mouth and avoiding social interaction.
Happily, this would change when she became a participant in kykNET’s most popular makeover show, Mooimaak. The dental wizard that is Dr JJ Serfontein gave Emmerentia a life-changing smile makeover while the Skin Renewal team led by Dr Graham Duncombe and therapist Liza Schoeman used a series of treatments to turn back the hands of time.
Lasers and light: Laser Genesis and Photo Dynamic Therapy (PDT)
Injectables: Dermal fillers and botulinum toxin and 3D non-surgical rhinoplasty

Lasers and light
Collagen is the stretchy protein that gives our skin it’s elasticity so it’s the key to youthful-looking skin. Our bodies produce lots of it when we’re young, but as we get older this process slows down. This is why it’s important to invest in treatments that help tighten up the collagen we have while encouraging our skin to make more of it. Laser Genesis is one such treatment and was used to firm up Emmerentia’s face.
Another way we helped boost her collagen supply was via Photo Dynamic Therapy (PDT). Quick and painless, it involves using different coloured pure visible lights to stimulate certain processes in the skin. These include stimulating the cells that produce collagen to work a lot harder.
Put the needle on it!
At Skin Renewal, we believe in tackling problems using several different therapies that enhance each other’s effects, not just one. It’s this unique 3D approach that ensures we get the very best results. So, while lasers and light are a great way to induce collagen production, it’s not the only way.
Dermapen is another very popular collagen-boosting treatment. It involves running an electric needle across the skin to create micro ‘wounds’ that inspire a ‘repair’ process that’s essentially collagen synthesis. As a topical anaesthetic is used, Emmerentia found the treatment completely painless and later marvelled at how it improved her skin’s texture, left her ‘glowing’ and even helped lift her mild pigmentation.
A liquid lift
Last but not least, Emmerentia was given a 3D Liquid Facelift. This completely knife-free procedure involves injecting botulinum toxin to relax the look of wrinkles and dermal filler to plump up any areas that have lost volume. The latter helped sculpt her cheekbones and subtly augment her lips, a good thing as she had beautiful new teeth to show off. “I’m now super happy to smile 24-7! These treatments have enhanced my appearance for the better,” she said. “I feel like a new person!”
